Sally, We're Almost There!

We've been chasing after Sally's whereabouts for months and we may finally be seeing light at the end of the tunnel. That's right, we've received solid information that LINE Rangers may finally be coming to a close, and we might finally be able to rescue our dear Princess Sally!

Blast message from the official Taiwan LINE Rangers account

This was sent out on August 11 and I didn't realize it until last night that it was related to the Taiwan TV Celebration Event. It came from an official LINE Rangers account for the Taiwan region so it is legitimate. The message not-so-subtly reveals that:

  • We will soon be facing the final boss, Mephisto, so they have run this TV commercial event in order to attract more friends to rescue Sally.
  • To help newcomers fast-track to the final area, LINE will be giving away some gifts to new players (Aug 11 to Aug 20, new accounts that clear stage 70 will get 100 rubies and have a chance to win one of 5000 Rangers themed t-shirts. For Taiwan region players only.
  • Current players who clear stage 144 between August 20 and September 5 14:00 will be gifted 100 rubies and one of either KSM or Dumpy rangers. In addition, players who clear 144 in this time frame are also qualified to win one of 5000 Rangers themed t-shirts. For Taiwan region players only.
  • The notice also says, "Sally is within our sights!"
So this confirms without a doubt that the final area release is coming down the pipeline and our rescue mission is coming to a close soon. August 20 may be the last area, or areas, that we will get for the game.

This could be good news or bad news for players. We love this game and it's been such a fun ride. But it has not been without challenges. Something is nagging at me though. It was only 4 weeks ago that the development team sent out a player survey asking us what we like about the game and how they can improve the game. And now, about 5 weeks after that they're sending out the last area of the game? I think either:
  1. The notice is misleading -- causing hype for marketing the game and we are not actually at the end of the game, or...
  2. The LINE Rangers developers are taking their money and running, in effect cutting their losses with the many issues that have arisen from the game (imbalance, cheating, etc.). They could use the feedback and knowledge they've learned from this game to create a new game that will be more foolproof. Maybe a LINE Rangers 2 sequel is in the works. Maybe! It seems a perfect opportunity to scrap future labor hours on a good game that has reasonable replay value but irreparable flaws, and concentrate resources on an improved new game based on its predecessor's successes.
Another possibility is that 144 isn't the last stage, but just a setup for the last area. Because why would anyone who has cleared 144 need KSM or Dumpy if it is the "last stage"? In any case, it feels like we are closing in on the end very soon. Will we see Sally after besting Mephisto finally in Stage 144 or not? What do you think?

  2. Think its not the end.if i am not forget line once said in a notice that skyscraper is a part of 9 or 10 areas left. So assuming skyscraper and maze is the 2 areas of 10 areas left. Means there will be still 8 areas. Why give new rangers when you want end the game. Not logic. Maybe we will just see a sally statue or what to tell us that its getting closer to sally. Personally i am thinking this game is still necome their money suck machine. Ppl still spend money for rubies but well yeah most players have bored with LR now so its time to rejuvenate their spirit. Some players has sick enough with LR but they had spent so many money for this rangers so they keep playing even they are emotionally tired with this game. So Line need to rejuvenate the spirit. For ppl who is cheating LR dont give a damn with it because even you cheat in PVP you still need to buy feather with rubies and that means more money again for them. Just my 2 cents up to you panic. Been a while not comment on this blog although maybe i am one of the first generation whom found your blog when you just made 2 first posts LOL. Now its "BIG" and crowded. Good Job and quality posts as always

    1. Lol yeah bigger crowd now.
Anything is possible. Line does whatever they want whenever they want. Keeps us guessing :) They can make money off us with a new mission in the same game or sequel game. If they make a quality game, people will play. Personally, I would love to see us save Sally and move onto a new story or something.

    1. Exactly. They're making too much money to just end it. Even if we rescue sally they'll likely start a new chapter with a new excuse to keep knocking down towers.

  4. Well if they're making new sequel, I hope to see a bigger level cap and bigger stat numbers, and also more powerful Moon and Jessica rangers.
(Poor them, most people pretty much favored Brown (Red, Thunder, Summer, Ola, Hip-Hop), Cony (Witch, Lucifer, Sorcerer, Songster, Best Couple), Boss (Dancer King), James (Prince), and other rangers (Chichi, Dwight, Luis, Susu, Rider Edward, Dumpy, and others) more over them. Especially Moon. He's featured in the game icon, featured in most game storyline pictures and the best version of him is only Masked. For Jessica, at least Warrior is used for Castle in The Sky (108), and Charismatic has around Masked Moon's HP with addition of less cost and splash damage. But still...).

Also, maybe playable Princess Sally for the sequel as well, if we really rescued her for real.

  5. I think it's not end ... because LINE rangers just BIG updated.
But the Last Stage in LINE town may be coming soon.
Next stage may be Sally's star or Mephisto's star.
We don't know what's the Mephisto's purpose who kidnapped sally.
Final stage call "Valley of dead" but I think it's so long from now.

  6. Yeah, I agree with you guys about this "game ending". Come on, seriously, these stages can't be the end of the game. There are so many reasons for this not being true in any way. Some examples:

    - They've been said to have 5 whole new areas ready to be deployed before the maze of illussion came out. That is, there's still left a set of 4 areas, which would lead us up to stage 180
    - They're investing a lot of money in advertising. See, for instance, the latest event related to the campaign of TV ads just released in Taiwan
    - They're releasing new rangers that no one would care about enough to waste their $$$ in if the OP players had finished the game already
    - The aforementioned new invitation event
    - Most important: This game is a HUGE source of income. Forget about every other reason if you want to, but there's no other thing in the whole wide world that these greedy people care more about than the cash flowing into their huge pockets

So, believe me, we will have still Line Rangers for quite a while. Most likely, yes, we'll rescue Sally, but then she'll become a new ultra-OP ranger and we'll have to fight another menace

PS: "Valley of dead"? I think it was "Canyon of Death", wasn't it?

    1. I agree with most of the point you mentioned. However, I don't think fair to call the game developer or line's executives greedy people. They do business and it aims for profits. I know that you and I have the rights to express our discontent about what the developer did but I don't think that there is anything wrong about their attempt to maximise the profit. With all due respect, I just feel that your word is a little too harsh.

      Delete
    2. OK, you've got your opinion, and I've got mine. And in my opinion the current gacha system shows nothing but greed. Furthermore, I don't think it maximises the profit either (I, for one, am not willing to pay for the chances of getting what I have already, and I know for sure that I'm the only one who thinks in this way)

      Delete
    3. In all fairness Dali, while you may have your opinion to call the game developers greedy, others may call you cheap or stingy or whiney. While it's one thing to suggest game improvements, its another to continually negatively label them on each post you make. No one is forcing you to play the game or to accept the methods they've chosen - but its quite clear people are happy to pay for a product they enjoy.

      Delete
    4. Well, again, it's not only my opinion, because I know for real that many other players think in the same way I do, independently of having paid or not.

Of course I like and enjoy the game or I wouldn't be playing at all, but there's still so much room for improvement and as a long time user I think that I may express my opinion and criticism about whatever I think it's not being done in the right way.

The game grows more and more seriously unbalanced with each new update.

The rewards of XP and coins of the latest stages is laughable, for saying the least. The need of clearing the same stage 200+ times to raise one single level despite the use of XP boosts makes no sense at all.

And, come on, the gacha system is annoying and discouraging. no matter if you're a free player or a big spender. It's even worse if you're paying, I think, because the number of rangers is increasing and, if you have all the previous ones mastered already, the chances of getting the new stuff are infimal. I'd be willing to pay if the gacha wouldn't give me my previously mastered rangers over and over again, and I don't think anyone can be "happy", citing your own words, after paying $1,000 for a bunch of pews and danes. If so, maybe there are some mental issues involved or, hopefully, so much spare cash that it really doesn't make any noticeable impact in the bank account.

And that's not my opinion, it's a fact. Of course, you always can argue if they're making more or less money in this way. I think that it's worse for them too, because big spenders will eventually stop wasting their bucks in a system like this one, but hey, it's true that I have not the answer here. Maybe they know better and their income is higher with such a policy. Anyway, it's their product and they're entitled to define it as they please. What is undoubted is that it would be better for us players if the gacha was changed in the fashion I'm proposing, and happy customers are more likely to lead the way to a successful enterprise in a long term basis.

    5. Hey dali,

I understand that the current Gacha system is not favourable to us. Your propose about not to hand us any rangers we have mastered is one of the good proposal as well but do you really think that it would work when everybody or most of people have mastered all 5stars ranger. Then, what will it be? When they released new 5 stars rangers, the probability to max the new one out will be incredibly high( at least compare to that of now ).
I am not saying that my or your way works better, it is always good to hear a thoughtful opinion from people like you who encourages for a sustainable game improvement. I just only feel that calling game developer a greedy people is not appropriate. Hope you don't mind me saying all of these.

      Delete
    6. Of course I don't mind you saying anything as long as you're being polite (what you've been, of course).

Let's think about this for a while, with actual numbers. Free players such as me won't EVER get the new stuff mastered without paying at a rate of less than 300 free rubies ( = 18 rollouts) per month.

For instance, myself. Maths fanatic as I am, I keep updated a list of how many rangers I need to get them all mastered:

      5*:
      1 Bernard
      2 Thunder Brown
      3 KSM
      3 Lia
      3 Gentleman James
      3 Cherina
      3 Honey
      4 Chichi
      4 Prince James
      4 Dancer King Boss
      4 Mully
      4 Luke
      4 Dumpy
      4 Legend Boss
      4 Charismatic Jessica
      4 Lucifer Cony
      5 Luis
      5 HipHop Brown
      5 Dwight
      5 Hitman
      5 Edward
      5 Olá Brown
      5 Susu

      = 89 5* rangers missing

      4*:
      3 Bob
      3 Cobe
      3 Best Couple Brown
      3 Rapper Boss
      4 Alex
      4 Frog Brown
      4 Best Couple Cony
      4 General Brown
      4 Lightning Jessica
      5 Abdula
      5 Summer Brown

      = 42 4* rangers missing

      3*:
      5 Summer Cony
      5 Elle

      = 10 3* rangers missing

GRAND TOTAL = 89 + 42 + 10 = 141 premium rangers missing. I know that most free players have MORE missing rangers than me, because not everyone has been playing since the begining without selling useless stuff and almost no one bothers in mastering rangers such as Styne, Toti or Duncan.

Each month they're releasing a batch of 6 new rangers. That's 30 more rangers missing, monthly. As stated, average free players gather around 300 rubies (18 free premium rollouts) in the same period.

That is, with the system I proposed, the number of rangers they could hand players like me without repeating ANY SINGLE ONE, would be increasing at a monthly rate of 12.

For instance, next month I'd need 153 rollouts to get every premium ranger mastered (and still I should ensure to MASTER THEM prior to gacha in order to get no repeated ones).

      In rubies, that makes (153 / 6) * 100 = 2,550.

The best deal at this moment is a pack 380 rubies which costs $49,49 and means 50% added to the basket for free. I'd need 7 packs to get all those rangers and be up to date, so I'd need to spend $346,43. Added to this, I'd need to spend enough for 12 additional rollouts, that's 200 rubies = $29,62 rubies, monthly to STAY up to date.

      That is, summarized:

      - Free players would spend nothing but have poor rangers
      - Occassional spenders would be having a much better deal than currently
      - Big spenders would put their pockets to rest and start spending only 30 bucks a month (plus, why not, rubies for buying other stuff like rainbow feathers if they want). The decrease in their outcome would be compensated by what new or formerly free players would need to spend to get the best stuff and keep up

Players would be more incentivated to pay, and they would be receiving more than enough income to support the continuous development and enhancement of the game. If they say they wouldn't, well, that is my key to say the word again: GREED

    7. lol, still complaining about gacha??? few weeks ago you said that you'll quit LR very soon... please do... and btw you are welcome to make your own LR game with your own gacha system.

    8. I complain about whatever I want, man. I would quit but that would please you, so I won't. Rejoice, you're the reason I'm still around. :)

Now, seriously, I don't quit because I like the game. I've said it many times before. What I don't like is the gacha system, and I complain about it because it's the most annoying and stupid thing in the game. If you like it, good for you. Am I wrong if I figure out that you enjoy other earth pleasures such as being kicked in the nuts, too?

    9. rightt... you're just a big man-child who love to complain...thanks for reminding us about that fact...

i don't like it but you don't see me complaining and whining about it... it just a game and a very fun one... either enjoy it or just stop playing. It's irritating to see some whiny comments over and over calling the dev greedy or saying the system is stupid just because you don't want to spend money on it or have the shittiest luck in the world... about the nuts, unfortunately i would never know since i was born without having any... but i'd love to give you some kick if it can stop your whining...

  8. Line Rangers will never end indeed. Keep in mind that the developers are perfectly imitating the system that's used in Candy Crush and Puzzle and Dragons. What i think will happen?

Yes they will save Sally? Why, cause sally is top 3 most popular character from the Line franchise and her merchandise sells the best in the Line stores. So it is in their economic interest to save Sally and make characters from her. Then just like what happened in aforementioned games, another chapter opens up. And o yeah, you need Sally for it.

    1. I would very much like to see an episode 2 to line Rangers. I'm kind of on the fence. On one hand it would be nice to keep using the Rangers I paid for and worked so hard to grind out. But on the other, if it was a whole new and improved game, maybe the entire experience would be more enjoyable. The game being on my 6 months old though, I'm inclined to believe it will be the same game with a new storyline some day. Like you said, Sally on our team will be key to the new story.

      Delete
    2. Like other games who did the same, this new chapter will be in the same game. So you keep your old rangers. I don't think they will make a Line rangers 2 this fast already. Most likely after 3 years. Known and popular mobile games don't just make a game, they make a service. Where they keep updating one game to keep their player base satisfied.

The players that invested money in the game, wouldn't like that their investment was only worth it for just 1 year. EA does this for their FIFA franchise, but they are known as the company that screws their users.

So they will likely make a portal button on the map page, where you can switch maps. For example in Candy Crush, where you have an owl/night button that brings you to another map.

    2. Or he comes riding a giant robot. Japanese folks just love robots.

Anyway, if he comes out of the nest alone, we'd better not think about what kind of attack will he perform. Remember, the guy has a butt in his head. His attack might be quite... Disturbing.

  11. i just thought of an idea that may be better solution for LR that has become unbalanced bcause of new rangers. they can just make 144 the end of this 1st episode and create LR 2.
how about old players who have spent so much on this 1st episode? there are 2 options. 1st is allowing players to transfer rangers to new episode. of course, limited rangers are still have slight better advantage in stats, however the other premium non limited rangers are tweaked to keep the game balance and these rangers such as dkb, ksm, dumpy, bernard, etc are still can only be obtained through gacha.
2nd, is returning all rubies bought (not free from the game) by player and let them spend it on new episode.
this is just my opinion what can possibly (or better to be) happened regarding my experience playing some MMORPG game who wiped out their server bcause of too many rare item due to dupe that had been done by hackers..

  12. Does anyone else find it impossible to keep up with the Battle rankings nowadays? I don't have a lot of spare time, as I'm kept busy with my work, and I can never crack the bottom tier for more than half an hour. It's not that I'm losing the battles - I don't remember the last time I lost - but the pace is just too much for me to handle... :/

    ReplyDelete
  13. As stated in the previous article on this blog, now you need a lot of points to be in higher ranks. To be under the 20,000 you'll need at least 3000 points. With an average of 12points/battle, it's 184battles you need to win. So if you are busy and you can't do more than 25 PvP Battles everyday, you'll stuck at 30 Rubies :)
I think everyone is waiting for the PvP update..

    1. Some days of the week, I'm lucky if I can do five or ten! And of course a missed day entirely knocks you out altogether. It would be nice if they implemented some kind of ladder or group system, although I think it's probably an inherent flaw: when the majority of people win a majority of battles, it all comes down to who has the time to win the most...

  14. Wish they would build a new option that allows players to trade rangers with other players...almost impossible to get master five stars (non free) without hacking the game or spending lots and lots of money.

    1. That's not going to happen, ever, because it would enable users to create several new Line accounts, use the free starting rubies and trade with themselves.

What they should do is (come on, everyone!)... CHANGE the premium gacha system so it wouldn't give us whatever rangers we already have MASTERED (like pets in Cookie Run).

If we repeat this sentence enough times it may become true someday.
