The 22 Days of Christmas

LINE's holiday present for all players is going on for most of the month! Those of us who have been playing a while know that 1 Gacha ticket lets you play the 10-ruby Premium Gacha, and 2 tickets lets you play the 20-ruby Premium Gacha. However, 10 Gacha tickets did not allow us to play the 5+1 Premium Gacha -- and this is still true. The special nature of these December tickets is that gathering 20 Gacha tickets this month will allow you to play the "Christmas Special 10+3 Gacha" one time. So, if you log in 20 days this month, you will have another chance to get the 4 December-only limited Christmas rangers. See the notice below for the precise language of the giveaway.

Remember, Santa Moon, Rudolph Brown, Carol Edward and Kevin are all limited to December 2014 only. Once 2015 rings in, they will all be unavailable.

For the next week, it has been confirmed that we are no longer getting 5 rubies daily for daily attendance. I know it's a bummer because we've kind of gotten used to it. But the Gacha tickets are a similar thing. Those of you who have been vigilant should have mastered Mach Brown as well (I'm a baddie, I haven't).

Also, 4 more days to enter the Character Design Contest!

    1. There's still PvP though, you can get at least 80 gems from it this month just from hitting once a week.

    1. Really? This week's 7th day attendance gift in the US was Mach Brown.

    2. Yeah I got that. That puts me at 4. The 5th was apparently a 3hr special event that not everyone got...

    3. I managed to get the one at 3 hour event. Lucky for me I guess.

On another note, in PVP 9 out of 10 times if the enemy bust out Edward it's a lose round. Edward has such a long range, even further than Haco. And Haco seems to have been toned down as well, she doesn't kill as fast anymore.

      Delete
    4. Basically, yeah. If they get 1 Edward, I have to spam some items to kill him. If they get 2 or more, I'm done.

    5. i dont understand why sometimes my carol edward cannot kill a sorc cony in one shot and needs multiple shots just to kill a single chuck

  4. Akari, I did clear 168 with this team (+3 rubies to rebirth): HaCo 60; Carol Edward 60; Glenn; Scott; Rei.

My Hint: After blowing back the first wave to their tower, they will move toward again to ourr tower; don't use item when they didn't pass the half way, save the Thomas, right after when they pass the half way, use invincibility item, generate all the strongest rangers, call friend backup. During invincibility time the last pink monster will catch up with the front enemy team. Then freeze them, after about 6 sec, call Thomas, also right after the ice disappearing use Meteor. If we got luck, we could kill all the pink monsters near by our front team, and Thomas will make the further one slow down for a while.

But even I did it by using 3 rubies to revive but I think it is just my luck, because at hurry-up time the enemy has generation speed as crazy.

To someone ask my why do you know the stages have buffed? This time the pink monster seem to be generated non-stop, also comparing with youtube walkthrough, their HP had buffed and harder to kill => All the youtube walkthrough doesn't work any more, special for free farmable rangers.

Also after clearing 168, I tried again 157 and 158 to farm treasure, It is harder than before (I did clear them one week before Xmas Event) even now I have Carol 60 and Rudolph 60, HaCo 60: All monsters has higher HP, pink monster generation non-stop...

  5. I was hoping to get something better than coin for daily attendance event. LR Dev is really smart to make somebody willing to pay will pay for this event, but really stupid by giving us this, how suck coin did they give us. Yesterday, I was thinking about use some bucks to buy new rangers on next bonus event, but now this thought isn't longer stay in my mind.

    1. So you don't want the 22 gacha tickets then?

    2. No, I meant the ticket is appreciated for login event but for ordinary attendance event coin is sucked.

      Delete
    3. stop being greedy. a free xmas spin is wayyy better than daily rubies

      Delete
    4. i don't think it's greedy. if the developer wants to actually give players some kind of christmas gift for players they would have kept the daily ruby bonus on top of the daily gacha tickets. it seriously wouldn't hurt them at all. and we all know no one gives a crap about coins.

if they time the bonus right they could even increase the ruby sales by having the bonus tally close to 200 so players wouldn't hesitate to buy some rubies so that they could have another spin. but of course they had to see giving both ruby bonus and gacha ticket as "potential sales loss". how unfortunate.

      Delete
    5. I think you're overthinking it. By giving out gacha tickets, they've already increased the daily gift by a lot - who cares about buying rubies to get that last 200 if they gave you a free 200 worth + more (1 more premium gacha roll) in the first place?

      Delete
    6. Well, the developers need money to feed themselves and their families. They're doing so much for free players already, showering us with free gifts literally every single day, basically giving us the opportunity to become as powerful as premium players without spending a penny.

    7. This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.

    8. They are just giving us a chance to taste the power of the rangers if you get them without being able to master them. It feels gracious and awful at the same time

      Delete
    9. Guys, did you know about the drop rate of every Gacha, even you have one 1000 rubies, the chance to get the good drop to master Carol or Rudolph, or Kevin is extremely low. I just hope by gathering daily free rubies, PVP reward and tickets I could do the Xmax spin 2 times more until the end of this month (now I only have 12 rubies), and my rank is ~53k in PVP. If I could keep this record on every week to the end of this month. Just 92 rubies for what? Hopeless.

      Delete
    10. Akari, if they're in it to make profit (which i'm pretty sure they are because this game is a business nonetheless) they should care.

if the goal is 200 rubies, people are more likely to make a purchase if they already have 170 as opposed to just 50. it made them feel like they're so close to the goal they might as well take the extra effort to achieve it. in the end it's highly possible they make more profit that way rather than hoping for people to just buy 200 rubies. it's called behavioral economics and any kind of business could benefit a lot from studying it.

      Delete

  8. PvP field is extremely tight right now. Usually if I'm at 44k and win 5 in a row, I move up to like 35k (and fall back down to 42k before getting 5 more feathers, but still). Just now, at 44k I won 5 in a row and I'm at 42500. Daaaaang.

Not that I always win 5 in a row after the Halloween Cony nerf...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. PVP Field isn't only tight, it is also very hard to win now, the AI use item not like a machine anymore, sometime I think I was fighting with real player. This week I lost a lot, more than 10 battles. From the time I got HaCo, even at level 60, I almost win, and just lost maximum 5 times per week until last week, but now everything had changed.

      Delete
    2. You know whats worse? Sometimes they cheat. In the span of 6-7 seconds they managed to spam 3 Carols and 5 Kevin and 3 Halloco, running over me at ease. Yeah think about the rate that some Wasteland or Swamp towers spawn in hurry-up phase

Also it's like 99% of teams in top20K have Kevin and two third of that acquire Carol, Rudolf is somewhat more rare. However I figure top10k might have had full xmas team

      Delete
    3. Yes, right. They cheated us. For Ex: Even at the start time, I used ice to freeze them right at their tower, they didn't kill any ranger of mine. But after freezing time, I saw they have more than 5 Red, Carol, HaCo... How could AI cheat us like that, just within 10 sec even at level 99, max mineral general, no one could make that team.

      Delete
    4. I must be lucky or something, I almost never run into this. I have had times where I blink and there's 3 Edwards and 1 Halloween on me, but I attribute that to not looking at their side and focusing on spamming on my side.

Kevin hasn't caused me much trouble, but Edward on his own or any team of high HP tanks + splasher like Halloween ends me fast. Rudolph+Somchai+Halloween, etc. I actually find Somchai quite scary now...

  12. With those seriously over powered Christmas rangers, team battle has become quite meaningless.

I lost a round not because my rangers are week, not because the opponent is too strong, but just because the opponent's friend has Carol EDWARD!

And because I lost team battle to a week opponent with much less points than me, I lost 16 points!
But don't forget, the opponent win is not because he/she is strong but his/her friend!

RED from angry birds is already over powered, now those without Red or any other Christmas rangers are all in vain.

  13. God 163 is so unbelievably hard, possibly the hardest stage Ive ever played. Gotta use 3 rubies to get past it after countless feathers

To make a comparison, I get through 164-->167 in one go lol. Havent tried 168 yet. That said, the very challenging campaign kind makes up for how sad PvP has become

    ReplyDelete

    1. I have never tasted 163 before. I have been stuck at 158 for weeks (yes, the earlier stage of swamp). But since i got carol master and rudolph master, i went to 168 easily. I saved ruby for months, no spin for me when red event came. Luckily i saved up for 4 xmas gacha spins.

Then I tried to take my carol off temporary. Using three lowbies, mastered ksm and sorcerer cony tried to clear 163. Anddd........ fuck it where's my edward anyway?

PS : Is honey considered as free ranger? I mean not all people cant pass swamp, or barely escaped, it is hard to grind 160 164 168 all the way.

    2. What happens when you use 3 rubies to continue a stage? I haven't done that before.

    3. Enemies get tornado-blown back to their tower. You do not get your friend or items back. The enemies start marching toward you immediately.

      Delete
    4. Your tower also gets full HP and you get invincibility activated (that's 2x invincibility since it doesn't use your item). Worth it for a final push if you are really really close to killing the important front liners, but if they're still at like half health, don't bother.

+ After maxing mineral generation, generating Glenn+Rei+SoCo (sometimes have enough mineral to call Opera James.
+ When the first enemy way reach to your tower, blow them back then call Immediately Glenn+Rei, also SoCo or James as soon as possible.
+ Use invincibility item when the enemy staying close to their tower call Friend backup (strong team is recommended).
+ Right at 9th sec of invincibility time, call Meteor. Because the enemy team is closing to their tower this time after getting hit by Meteor, we could kill almost the "dog like" monsters and pink monsters.
+ Call Thomas, use missile at anytime.
+ Use Ice when ton of new monster generated to hold them right at their tower.
+ Continue spamming Rei+Glenn+SoCo+James until victory.

    2. I just managed to past level 156, now I"m stuck at 157 (first level of Treacherous Swamp). I've watched videos of how some people did it, but somehow my ranger die too fast or I can't spawn up new rangers to take over in time... :(

      Delete
    3. Ok, I've tried 157 more than 20 times now, and I'm f**king giving up. Using all the different combinatios of rangers from the youtube vides. The electric dogs just comes too fast and kills all the lowbies to even keep up.

This is getting ridiculous, I'll only play PVP until Treacherous swamp gets a freaking nerf.

      Delete
    4. The first videos I saw involved bumrushing 157, getting 2-3 DD out and then going all out on their tower. I did better when I played it slower, because at a lower level I didn't have enough minerals to pump out DD to do the bumrushing. Play it like any normal stage where you hold them back with lowbies until your mineral level is high, then get a few DD out and go crazy with items.

      Delete
    5. Sorry, what is DD?

I've tried different combination of rangers based on the videos, but the premise is the same, use lowbies to hold them while I upgrade the minerals and bring out some splashers e.g. Soco.

Then I use items e.g. ice/tornado/shield to hold them while I blast them. Problem is after that I cannot keep up with lowbies. Even sending lowbies consecutively, the electric dogs can still advance till the point of killing all my rangers.

Maybe my timing of lowbies suck. I've tried with spamming 2 lowbies, then 3 lowbies but still the dogs come too fast.

      Delete
    6. 20 feathers aint nothing, I've wasted like 200 at stages like 163 lol.

Most of swamp stages go like this:
      1. Spam lowbies to get Thomas
      2. Tornado when enemies get close to tower
      3. Spam lowbies
      4. Ice or Invincible when enemies cross the midline AND the pinkies stack
      5. Use item, friends, Thomas and attackers to kill all (or most of) the pinkies. The Krillins dudes and others are easy to hold off with lowbies

Some stages need a bit of different strategy though. For example in 165 you may beat it with only Glenn + any splasher by timing the deployment. Some others require you to save Thomas and one item until you reach the tower and second wave comes out

A bit OT: I've noticed an increase in delay caused by missile recently. Carol stops attacking for like 2 seconds after being hit by missile. Dunno if upgrades play a part in this?

      Delete
    7. DD is Damage Dealer, sorry, different game talk. I tried so many different ways to beat 157 that I don't really remember how I did it, sorry. I remember being inspired by the Driver Brown video initially but I don't think I ever succeeded that way, so I bet I went with a 2 lowbie method. If I recall, the key idea is to hold off with lowbies while you get some splashers out, then tornado them back and ice them, then follow with all items (call friend at ice I guess?). The biggest key is that you cannot let any splashers die before the first tornado or else you won't have enough firepower to hold them back at the end.

The best thing though, is that if you can beat 157, you can get to 163 easily. If you can beat 163 (good freaking luck, nobody likes it), then you can get to 168 easily. Beating 168 though... sigh.

      Delete
    8. 165 was a whole lot of fun once you get the timing right. Not stressful like 163/164

    9. @AnonymousDecember 10, 2014 at 4:04 AM

It's not the feathers so much, it's the cost of the items and help for each round that are wasted when I failed the stage. Gold is important for me, thanks to the huge freaking cost of upgrades for each level. I saved up friendship points to redeem feathers on 2x gold day just to get more gold.

But thank for your tips though.

      @ Akari.

Thanks for your encouragement. Basically that's what I tried to do, but the second round after I used ice/tornado/shield the electric dogs still come so fast that my lowbies can't keep up.

I'm pretty sick of it for now, maybe I'll give it another try next week or after I gained another level and upgraded (which is major chore now, having to farm so much gold just to upgrade). Usually I don't care about blazing through the stages so quickly, but I was hoping to get MT Brown by clearing stage 168 before December 15. Really think it looks like an impossible dream by now. :(

    1. Do you mean minus time-exclusive rangers, or minus all premium rangers?
With premium but without time exclusive probably something like
MT Brown KF Brown Sorceror Cony DKB/Maestro KSM? Maybe Kinnara if you have her, or Dumpy's pretty strong if you can keep him alive. I think Abdula, Hitman, and Mully also have their place, but it depends on your playstyle too.

If you take out all premium and you want only free, then you're kind of screwed if you don't have Norurun, Chuck, Driver Brown. I think DD is basically only Sorceror Cony and Lia at that point too.

      Delete
    2. <--- is screwed then. Tickets will never expire right?

      Delete
    3. Gacha tickets don't expire, but there's no guarantee they will work on next season's special gacha. Did you get Mach Brown at least? He can fill in and replace Chuck or Norurun as well. If you have absolutely none of those, then you'll have to fall back on Masked Moon or Xan. Thunder Brown just moves too slowly to fill in as tank these days.

Alternatively, using the standard PvE based team can still do well unless they have Edward or Red. 2-3 lowbies + Sorceror Cony, Opera James, Lia.

  25. Just wanted to share a PvP discovery I recently made. This is important.
FRIEND HELP rangers in PvP do not have the damage penalty applied. They inflict far more damage than regular/non friend help rangers. For those that don't know what I'm talking about when I say "damage penalty". I'm talking about the discovery that Wei S and his team made about about PvP rangers months ago. They realised that rangers in PvP have the following attack penalties applied depending on their *type*

    Splash Type 15% damage only
    Health Type 50% Damage
    Balance Type 50% Damage
    Attack Type 70%

Splash rangers are penalised the most only doing 15% damage of what they will normally do in regular stages. BUT!....

This DOES NOT apply to FRIEND HELP rangers. While it's true, friend help rangers don't have the benefit of treasures.. They also don't have the massive disadvantage of PvP Penalties.

As an example, I've been able to test how much damage a *regular* Mastered Edward does per HIT in PvP. And it's confirmed he does exactly 1018767 damage per HIT. That's with the 15% damage penalty and the Castle in the sky attack treasure bonus.
On the other hand FRIEND HELP Carol Edward has been confirmed to do damage in the vicinity of 4 to 5 million per hit. I haven't confirmed the exact amount yet, but have been able to test him against a level 81 tower and he destroyed it with 2 freaken hits. Level 81 tower has over 8 million HP. I'm pretty sure he can also destroy a level 83 tower with 2 hits as well...

This information should help everybody adjust their tactics when USING friend help and DEFENDING against friend help in PvP. Make sure they get in as many hits as possible... Especially on the enemies tower.

    1. Depends on the situation; if they don't have splash then one stars are a great attack disperser :).

  27. Akari, yes they have lower HP than regular rangers. Not only lower HP but:

    1) Slower move speed
    3) Slower attack rate
    4) Shorter attack range

Like I said they don't have the treasure benefits that regular rangers have. Regular rangers have the benefit of the temple of ice treasure. That increases HP. I have also had the same observations as you. That's why it's important to protect our friends help when possible and like I said earlier make sure they get in as many hits as possible. I often use items to protect them when they are within striking range of the tower.

    2. I would easily say it is the toughest stage in the swamp - the rest are much much easier by comparison. If you are using free rangers, then the timings are very tight, and it requires a bit of luck.

Firstly, you must charge up Ghost Boy by the time the first wave reaches your tower. Secondly, do not use your missiles during this first wave. The missile will greatly increase the chance of the enemy's bombs to destroy your wall of lowbies. Remember, the goal is to create a wall of lowbies and slow down the enemy as much as possible.

After you launch the tornado, it is highly important that there are no rangers remaining on the field. You must allow the pink monsters to get ahead of the jumping fat guys as much as possible. This is where you mount your attack. You must damage the pink monsters here as much as possible within the time allowed by the Invincibility and Ice Shot items. If you've done enough, the following Meteor attack should wipe them out, or, the meteors should damage the pink monsters just enough so that a few more hits from your rangers will take them out.

After this, it's all about how fast you can build up an army before Hurry Up mode happens.

    3. Thanks Anon from above. I've essentially tried all means and methods...somehow the timing isn't correct. When left with a bunch of pinkies (to delay time) i get killed, but somehow the youtube videos made it look so easy.

I tried charging to the tower also to no avail..even after hurry up the Fat boy just move too fast to kill my lowbies. I already dread to load up to game today

  30. Alright, I've been trying 168 like crazy and I'm not getting anywhere.
    Main problems
    - spamming 3 lowbies plus wasting friend help does NOT get me Thomas until they're practically at my tower the second time.
    - despite losing so many times in a row, I've seen Gold Brown maybe ONCE in 30+ tries

Also they just keep spamming the stupid thunder cats after I wipe out most of the front line with items, so my level 60 Edward gets destroyed quickly. I just don't even see how this level is doable right now. At all.

    1. Akari, don't use 3 lowbies, just Glenn and Rei are enough, replace Scott by Songers Cony or SoCo if you have mastered them. So, after maxing ur mineral generation, you could call SoCo and Songster Cony at the same time while spamming those lowbies. The more rangers you could deploy the faster Thomas comes. Save him use him at the right time.

Also learn more strategy from recently youtube walkthroughs (within this week is recommended to refer).

    2. I tried with 2 lowbies and it seems to go better, but I still can't get a Thomas before the first tornado. Now I get it a little sooner , but still about 70% of the way towards my base the second time. I just don't understand... My team is 75 Halloween, 60 Edward, mastered Sorceror Cony, Glenn, Rei.

J Huang has put up a bunch of videos using Mach Brown but my minerals aren't really high enough to support throwing him out so fast. I'm level 91 right now.

    3. Don't think too much about Mach Brown, in this stage Mach Brown isn't different with any lowbie, just die by one enemy hit.

Pls try: Just calling lowbies and SoCo at the first enemy wave, save mineral enough to deploy HaCo and Carol after blowing them back, and maybe be you can have Thomas when they are reaching to 2/3 way from their towers to yours. Use invincibility at that time, then ice, then Meteor, and the last is Thomas. If you got luck, you could kill almost the front enemies... keep spamming lowbies and HaCo, SoCo, Edward...

    4. Ok, now I know the real big problem. If I kill the front line and have only the boss and the pink guys, then I can't hold them back at all. When the boss kills my pair of lowbies, then immediately the pink guys bomb my back line and they die. I guess I have to stagger them somewhat at this point or something, I'm not really sure.

    5. Actually, I managed to beat it on the very next try! Now I understand what you meant, save Thomas until after the meteor hits because then it killed all the rest of the pink guys. When I had only the boss standing I was able to hold him off with only Rei and get a huge army in the back. My final team was Halloween 75, Kevin 70, Carol Edward 60, Glenn Rei.

Having Kevin instead of Sorceror Cony meant that I could do some actual damage to the fatties early on so that I would be sure to kill them off at the final rush.

    6. I'll also add that once I hit Hurry Up, I stopped calling Edward at all. He died too fast, so I only focused on Kevin and Cony.

    7. Akari, congratulation! You did good job!

  31. My problem is that after killing all the enemies except the pingpong dude, I dont have enough to kill the guy (holding him off is easy with lowbies though). So when hurry-up hits shortly, I simple got run over by them electric dogs

  32. After tons of trying i realize that Mach Brown is essential one here. Only with master MB and Rei u can get Thomas before the 1st tornado !

    1. Panic's got a great blog here with tons of great information and interesting and useful personal opinions. The only problem is: I can't get enough of it! So Panic, will you pretty please post more often? Even if it's just the latest set of experiences, frustrations, and triumphs? :)

      Akari,

I, too, agree with your suspicion that the Christmas rangers are "absurdly strong solely because it's a big holiday..." I spent money on Red just for an OP ranger, although in retrospect I probably should have done it earlier and went for Halloween Cony instead as it is arguably more useful as a ranged splasher. However because of this "sneaking suspicion" that we seem to share, I'm considering splurging all my rubies (which I have roughly 375 right now) and Gacha tickets and whatever (hopefully little) cash I have to to pick up at least x5 Carol Edward and x5 Kevin. Any personal opinions and comments are asked for and welcomed.

I've found that having Red really helped, not just with the story levels or the Team Battles. I've been able to use him to farm 144 (the end-of-area boss level with the big drooling rabbit) to power-level both myself, my rangers, and gold. Just spam Red, end-of-story.

Congratulations on beating 168, by the way! I have like less than 3 days remaining to do it. :P

      Cuong Ngo,

I agree with you that Mach Brown seems to be quite important! Through trying with various (random and silly) combinations of rangers I found that the higher-level rangers actually contribute more to summoning Big Thomas. Perhaps it has to do with the higher HP/ATK? For example, if I mix in Red with x2 lowbies, I'd get Thomas after what seems to be many fewer rangers than if I used x3 lowbies. Which is why I've finally now maxed out Mach Brown and will attempt 168 again soon.

    2. Actually, I was farming 160 for some Honeys (and failing), but I noticed that spamming Kevin/Glenn/Rei got me a Ghost Thomas rather fast. Maybe I should try Mach Brown/Rei and see what happens.

  33. There's a wikia for CookieRun, there are small discussions there every now and then. Try it out.

  34. Thank you, JH. Hmm, unfortunately, I don't play enough Cookie Run to know the answer to your question. Not that I know of, there doesn't seem to be extensive English info about it.
