Experience Wanted

If you're like me, you're wondering how on earth some players have already reached level 99. Now I can tell you that these players probably spent loads of time playing when they should have been doing something else or sleeping :)

Once again, our friends at LINE Rangers 台灣社團 did some exhaustive studying into the topic of Player Experience to bring us an illustrative table of info.

LINE Rangers Player Level 1-99 Experience
  • Article comes from: LINE Rangers 台灣社團

"Line Rangers' player experience can be viewed if you tap on your avatar on the main screen. In order to determine the experience required to get from level 1 to level 99, dedicated members of LINE Rangers 台灣社團 collected stats over a span of 5 days. From the tables below, you can see that in order to get to level 100, you need to accumulate approximately 43.4 million experience."
The 3rd column of each table shows the increase in experience required for the next level

There is also a graph on the original article that shows that right as you past level 60, the experience required steps up dramatically. The additional amount required to get from 59 to 60 is only 3600, but the additional amount required to get from 60 to 61 is 15900. And then from 80 to 81, the additional step skyrockets again.

One reader accurately pointed out that the experience that is gained by the player is not the same as the experience gained by the rangers. For instance, the experience gained by the player from clearing stage 117 once is 4560. The experience gained by each ranger is 1550 (which is the number that appears briefly over each ranger's head). Following the math, it will take you 9516 clears of 117 under normal circumstances to get from level 1 to 100 (obviously, this is all theoretical). If you farm 117 repeatedly on double experience day with the 50% experience booster, you'll need to play for 52.87 straight hours, or well over 2 days. That's a lot of play time! There might be some relationship between the experience gained by the player and the rangers, but it'll require more time to look into it.

  1. It's not only the experience you need to increase though. Otherwise you have the xp but can't afford the tower upgrades to get the actual mineral boosts.

This might not be the most efficient but here's what I did. Go get a dozen or so Sol and Alice each. I farmed at level 104 for xp and gold using Ola and Dwight. The other 3 slots I used to level up freebie Xan, Sol and Alice so that I can sell them later for extra gold. Going back for Sol and Alice whenever necessary. Sell everything else.

    3. Ive been trying to get Sol from level 76 and 80 for the last 4 player levels (53 - 56) and Ive never managed to get one =.=

    4. I try to sell them at above lvl 40. Sometimes a bit earlier because I ran out of space due to too many Xans. I usually have about 100 Xans on hand due to playing so much on stage 104 so if I need to clear some I'll just use Xan once to sell him at 9000+ instead of the base 6000+.

You can also combined the free 4star cony with the 2 star mummy before selling to get another extra 300ish gold but I dont find that waste of time worthwhile for that little coin. Much better to use that time to grind at 104 cos you get the chance to earn another cony or xan.

That's just what I do, I'm sure if you do your own calculations you can find more optimal lvl to sell them. :D

    3. Actually, my PVP team didn't change too much since the new ranger release. To be fair, I don't have any of the new rangers mastered. I know how much money I spent to get Ola Brown mastered (in part because I believed he was a great ranger, which he is, but I somewhat regret it because he's not as OP as I hyped him up to be in my head lol. And in part because I like Brown a lot). So I am hesitant to spend a similar amount of money to attempt to get Susu. As a matter of principle I also tried really hard to refrain from funding LINE Rangers until they expunge of the cheaters in the pvp rankings during this last set of events. I had hoped that if I can't annoy their eyes and ears with complaints that I'd hurt their wallets instead. I played around with Cherina and she cuts through everything in ranks 5000 and below with no difficulty whatsoever. She's a bit harder to work in at higher ranks, especially since mine is not mastered.

I'm currently running with master Ola, DKB, SoCo, Hip Hop, and a level 75 KSM. I'm doing decently for the leisurely amount of time I'm spending in PVP this week.

Dream team, hrm, maybe mastered Hitman, DKB, SoCo, Cherina, and Hip Hop. I'm not too hot on slow rangers as a personal play style. I'm not dissatisfied with my own team, though. Once I get KSM mastered some day, I think I'd be happy who I have now. As they say, there are many ways to skin a cat, and I think a lot of team comps are great.

  6. Hmm you're right, the player experience gained is more than the ranger experience gained. From 117 I'm getting 6840 on the player with 50% boost (so 4560 I guess normally). Well, I guess that's comforting; it won't take as long. But anyway the last part was more an illustration - - in reality no one would level strictly during double experience day anyway. But this is an important discovery, Anonymous. A good one! I'll update the post.

  7. Which should I use, shu (70) or Sorcerer cony (65), in attack cony win, but in deff shu win, the minerals for cony is 440, and shu is 460. Need opinion , thank's.

    1. Depends on other members of your team. If you already have someone in the far range like dkb or prince or songco, then maybe go with Cony for more dmg. If your team is front-heavy with no far long range, Shu would be a nice one to have in the back pocket.

  8. Thank you for your article panic.
Yeah, you are right that people that reached lvl 99 is actually playing when someone else sleeping (including me, haha).
I have reached lvl 99, and I use macro program, like autotouch for iOS to help me leveling up. It is simple recording process, and help me leveling (kinda boring to do repetitive action).
However, it is right that I couldn't afford the coin for all upgrade (until now, I have maxed the mineral rate and mineral limit only, still collecting coin for rocket and tower HP upgrade).

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ah, interesting. I didn't know you could record a macro of taps with an app. That certainly explains to me how some people got to 99 in less than a week of the new player max. It was mind boggling.
I haven't upgraded tower hp since 74. All my coin has gone into minerals for many levels. I have a lot of catching up to do. But I don't feel that my tower health is inadequate even at 74 (the game also did a blanket upgrade of tower hp to all players according to their player level, independent of the upgrade status). I'm still not convinced that the missile damage is worth upgrading, but that was based on research I did last month. It might have changed, haven't checked.

      Delete
    2. OMG, you should be careful, read the new notice from line rangers!

      Delete
    3. Yeah it made me wonder. Though macro apps are external to the game app, and it just emulates a person tapping the buttons. Really not sure how line would know the difference between a real person tapping vs a macro programmed tap. In any case that's the least of the offenders out there!

    4. How do you get so many feathers? I'm level 97 and I ran out of feathers.
I also have the max friends on line(4999) so I can't add or invite anymore.

      Delete
    5. I think the cheating apps from the notice is the mod (mainly android phone that could do that). The cheating is illegal, I never use it anyway. it provide you with no-delay missile, no-delay summon, no mineral cost for any ranger. I have seen one video demonstrate those cheating.

For the macro apps, I don't think it is cheating. It just record your touch anyway, and repeat it. Just like normal users play it. It is no way LINE could different between real person tapping vs macro-programmed apps. If there is way, it is no where cheating and exploiting Line Ranger program.

@anon for feathers, I use friendship point to buy feathers, I have collected many feathers (around 2400 feathers) when there was no update before.

@anon for the name of software: you could search for "macro recorder". I only know "autotouch" for iOS, and for android, I don't know. I though I heard someone in my group said about "HiroMacro", but I never use it because I don't own android phone.

      Delete
    6. If you are touching the exact same coordinates every single time repeatedly then it would be easy to tell if you are botting or not. But I don't think botting is their main concern. It's the mods like you said. It's how people with very low level, free rangers get such high ranks.
Also, my friend used a macro app and bluestacks to bot on his computer. He got to 99 without spending much time on his computer. Just spam stage 104 with a maxed dumpy and you finish it within seconds.

    7. My question about how to level up 99 within 4 days has the answer now. One of my friends told me about the cheating on Android - the one is at level 44 but had passed thru the stage 120 with his un-max level team.

Thanks, Shuy1n. I have checked that there is the software "autotouch" on iOS, and I need to pay 4,99$ for full version of this soft. I haven't try this one because now I don't need to upgrade max level.

Thanks Panic for the information and your work again.

    8. Yup, it is Autotouch and we have to paid $4.99. I paid that, and it is worth (although I have that software for long time now, and I don't know whether it will be worth for you or not in order to help you to increase to max level).

  11. Have the guys that originally did the mineral rate per upgrade level redone it for the new max level? Comparing costs and mineral rates between level 80 and level 99 would be super interesting.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Not as yet. I don't know if they'll find it worth the time seeing as how level 80 upgrades are already more than enough to deal with the stages we currently have. If we get new stages this month it may be a different story. I don't know, though, they churn out new info so fast, it's hard to say what they are working on or not.

    2. There was a big jump in cost from level 80 to 81. From 81 to 91 it's an extra 16000 gold per level. Maybe people who have reached level 99 can fill out the rest.

  14. When will line rangers release new areas? I got nothing to do, just single play, team battle and friend battle

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mid-month probably. I just hope that the effort they're putting into curbing cheaters hasn't taken away from development effort of new areas.

I didn't want to get into it before but seeing as how it's out in the open now, all I'll say about cheating is this: Cheating hurts everybody who plays the game whether you know it or not. It may be cheating other legit players out of the ranking on the global ladder they deserve, or cheating them out of game content that they should have gotten earlier (but now game maker is having to spend time policing rather than creating new content)... The bottom line is, if players don't play the game the way it was intended to be enjoyed by the public, it will negatively impact the entire community which includes players and developers alike. I know a lot of single player stage mode players think that it doesn't affect them if they don't touch pvp, but it simply isn't true.
I believe in this - play the game or don't play at all, don't ruin it for the rest of us who are trying to enjoy! I am glad Line told us they're taking some action against the cheaters. It shows us that they care about the integrity of the game at its most basic form.

Let's go back to saving Sally, please. That duck is still waiting for us whilst we war against each other for giggles and points.

    2. Hi Panic

Thanks for the great and informative site.

I was playing a few hours ago on PvP and was fighting with someone who appeared to be spawning rangers a lot quicker than normal. Is this what happens when you go up against someone with that cheat or have I just missed something?

At the start, they spawned all 5 of their rangers instantaneously and simultaneously. They then continued to spam me with their rangers, including Dumpy, at roughly less than 2 second intervals. As you can imagine, I was very quickly outnumbered and lost.

Have you or anyone else had similar experiences?

      Delete
    3. If the 5 rangers were relatively low cost it's completely possible. Like, dumpy, hip hop, cherina, lucifer, and Ola Brown, the total required is only 1440, completely possible to do this if the opponent is well caught up with max limit upgrades. The computer is also capable of near perfect cd deployment times. I've seen it do this in auto mode where I'd try to beat the computer at hitting the button for a ranger once I have enough minerals, and the computer wins every time. So the simultaneous deployment of all 5, provided that the sum of the rangers' cost is within the max limit set of minerals, does not surprise me. I just battled a team this morning that started its onslaught with Dumpy and Cherina, nonstop at 2-3 sec intervals also. Overwhelming, yes, but totally possible.

Btw, the hack that is rampant out there exploits client side only. The hack does not have the capability to manifest itself in the opponent ai behavior if you are playing a legit installation of the game. So any nutty deployments by the opposing team -- that's all Line's doing.

  15. Hello Panic,
my question maybe not 100% related to this topic, but it's related to the amount of feathers xD

i'm just curious, how can someone get 8000++ points in just few days when we need at least 25 minutes for 1 rainbow feather.

if we assume that they use 100% efficiency in that, then they will have around 1440/25 = 57 feathers per day.
if we assume they always win, with 15 points in every win, they will have at least 855 points per day.

how can they accumulate almost 10 fold of that in just few days?
are they spamming rubies to get another 5 rainbows or there is some tips to gain easy points?

    thanks a lot :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. The top tier players are most certainly purchasing feathers repeatedly to keep up with competition. I haven't done the math exactly but I can't imagine that the 1000 Rubies reward for top 3 is as big as gain overall as we think, though I only did a really rough estimation a while ago. They're spending dozens and dozens going at it nonstop.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think they only spend it for prestige/self-esteem in order to stay top.
Maybe they have some kind of groups where they can show off as being top players, so it is only a matter of self-esteem, and 1000 rubies reward is not their main motivator. Just my opinion.

      Delete
    2. Hi Panic, I have the same sentiment over the cheating issues
Now I am feeling the pinch of it. Squaring off with a few opponents who were probably ripped of their rank due to the cheating issue.Stand zero chance fighting them, sigh.

      Delete
    3. Yeah, I think it's bragging rights, too. I don't think they're gaining much in the way of rubies the way they're jacking up the highest scores throughout the week.

      Delete
  17. --Shuy1n : I was playing another mobile app game called rage of bahamut, yes, I do agree with what you are saying. It's about the esteem and pride thingy. Thanks to them the developer of the game will have more money to develop and create new stages and more sort after rangers lol

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow...
So it seems there's no other way except by buying more and more rubies o_O

if they bought 500 rubies, then they will have 500 rainbow feathers.
always win with 15 points per win, they will have 7500 points now.

    Make sense....

I do have a lvl 60 and lvl 75 lucifer and thunder respectively on my android phone, not on my main acct on iPhone.'(*゚▽゚*)' At lvl 84, I do find it hard to keep up with the big guys. It's simple equation like ( Time x Money ) vs ( Time), the outcome would be obvious . Time spending player- -personal opinion; could only stay competitive through constant upgrade of minerals, production time and pray lady luck looking over us during gacha. With obtainable rangers ( all maxed and mastered ) will not even stand a chance against special rangers. This is still a very addictive and fun game and with a lot if constructive comments and valuable info from this blog-(thanks to panic )

  19. Dear Panic and all,
There are two questions that had been on my mind for a while, would hope those who know enlighten me.
    1) I am playing line ranger on iPhone 4 and Samsung note 3, as my note 3 has higher specs that supports faster net connections and enabling smoother game play compared to iPhone 4 , I wonder if all this affects the speed of deploying the rangers.

    2) if you have enough coins to do one upgrade, would you upgrade production rate or max limit? Cuz I always do the latter first , I wonder if there are any of you who does the opposite.

    Thanks a million

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi lightsupper. I sometimes play my husband's account on his iPhone 4 and I myself play on Samsung s4. Both play the stages really decently. I've only ever experienced massive slowdown on my s4 during massively long pvp matches (>4 minutes) with tons and tons of units out on both sides, but it is rare and isolated to pvp situations, and frankly hasn't happened since the first few days this mode was released so it might have been a game bug anyway. I haven't ever team battled at high ranks on the iPhone so I don't know if the 4 suffers any such slowdown, I have a feeling it might. As far as other quirks in performance I have noticed that sometimes, at least on Android (I've heard complaints from other players too), at the start of stages and matches, there's a few second delay. Not a huge deal in stages but that &#@% will mess you up in pvp! It's weird and doesn't happen all the time but it gives me a stroke every time lol. IPhone has the horrible bug where if you receive a support unit from a friend midstage, the flyout message prevents you from doing squat until the message flies away. They fixed it for Android, but last I played on iPhone it was still present. In terms of game smoothness, I've really otherwise not felt any difference between the iPhone and s4, but I prefer my s4. Bigger screen, bigger buttons, I seem to press things more accurately. Maybe I'm just used to it. I have seen more people complain about iPhone connectivity to the game more often but I don't know if it's a fact or just happenstance. For a long, long while, I only ever had network error messages on the iPhone, rarely on the s4.

I upgrade production rate first. It's a symptom of the illness I have from playing rts lol, i worry about my income a lot and while I'm not as precise as the Taiwanese friends who calculate to the second how much mineral one requires and one produces, I usually have a good grasp on approximating the kind of income I need to support my team's seamless deployment. Production helps me get to where I want to go in the big picture (team comp planning) and the micro picture (deployment order), while the max gives me a starting edge, which is quite important in pvp and some tough stages. Increasing the max limit also can help you turn the tide when you most need it to push forward. For example in a pvp match, we've all hit that "stalemate" encounter. When you start to pull ahead a tiny bit and kill off enemies, you will immediately start to see your "recovered" minerals pour in, sometimes faster than you can spend it. If your max is higher, you can bank more and spend more rather than let your minerals go to waste. You can gain a convincing win when you efficiently spend your "recovered" minerals from killing enemies, and higher max limit helps you do that more easily. They're both important on my eyes, but I personally go production first. Particularly for pvp, I'm almost always playing 90% of the match at level 1 minerals, so I want my production level as high as I can get it so I don't waste time upgrading in battle.

    2. iPhone 4 is old and outdated. A4 chip has a horrible delay when using apps (even worst on iOS 7). Even the iPod Touch 5 has better specs than iPhone 4. I'm using iPhone 5S and it's flawless on LINE rangers - no error messages or bugs as you mentioned.

  21. Dear Panic ,
Thanks for the reply. Oh yes, I haven't paid much attention on the friend help on iPhone now that you've mention it and yeah, I couldn't deploy any ranger until that message shoots past the screen. I tried deploying Shu on iPhone, it's the feeling that Shu deployment is slower compared to note 3. Both mastered and my production mineral- from iPhone is way higher then that of note 3
, that is why I am suspecting Internet connection and phone spec plays a part. Thanks for the great insight in the game , I do hope the game developers would whip out some event for singapore players

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Phone spec probably plays some part in it but I don't think internet connection does. For example if your phone is on wifi and then you unplug your router in the middle of a stage, you can still play the whole stage. At the end of the stage, you'll have trouble rolling the bonus and continuing, but you can play the whole match no problem.

    2. I would love to play on my android tablet but it's really laggy. I'm playing on my tiny iphone cos everything is silky smooth. Tried on my Asus phone but it's exactly like on the tablet with lots of micro jerky stuttery graphics. I watch youtube vids and noticed the same lagginess on other android users.

Even basic scrolling android has got the irritating jerkiness about it.

      Delete
    3. You're using low end, cheap android products.
There's absolutely no lag on the HTC One or the Moto X.
And most of those people are in Asia. They don't have super nice phones like americans

      Delete
    4. This is borderline inflammatory so I'm going to nip this in the bud. I don't disagree that the people who may have displayed lag could be using cheap Android devices but it is not smart to assume that Asians don't have access to decent devices.

Half the "super nice phones" in the market today were developed and sold by Asian companies and you'd be sorely mistaken if you think they don't sell them to their own nation's consumers by the millions. And besides which, there are plenty of Asians who have a higher standard of living than the average American. I've seen it firsthand, and they think the American standard of living is "cute."

Not going to start down that road, so no more replies to Anonymous, please.

      Delete
    5. The average standard of living in Asian countries is lower than the average standard of living in America. You don't count outliers. Otherwise you could say the millionaires and billionaires live much better than any Asian.
      Don't take it so offensively.
Most of the good phones are developed somewhere else then MADE in an asian country because it is cheaper.
I know that they do sell them to Asian countries like with all high end smartphones regardless of where it's made. But the problem is that the average income of someone living in China versus someone in America is much less. Yes, some of them will be able to buy them, but percentage-wise less Asians have high end smartphones compared to Americans. And then there's standards and values, but I'll leave that story for later.

      Delete
    6. I do believe the original statement said, "They don't have super nice phones like americans" as a blanket statement for all Asians, but yeah, let's go with what you said as a follow up.

      Delete
    7. "Most" was referring to those who record those "youtube vids" and "they" was referring back to "most"
I never once spoke about Asians in general in that statement. You just misinterpret it. "Most of those people are in Asia" means most of the people making line ranger videos with low end android products are in Asia. "They don't have super nice phones like Americans" means of those people, their standards of a phone are much lower.

    9. "You're using low end, cheap android products.
There's absolutely no lag on the HTC One or the Moto X.
And most of those people are in Asia. They don't have super nice phones like americans"

This is hilarious. I'm from Singapore where we have the the highest density of millionaires and multi-millionaires in the world and by all accounts a wealthier country than the USA. Our car prices are the most expensive in the world but we also have the highest density of Lamborghinis. The average price of a car sold here is US$250,000 but yeah you're right, we can't afford super nice phones here like americans.

FYI in south east asia the mobile penetration is 120%, meaning there are more mobile phones than people.

  24. I have a plan to sell some "unuseful" rangers, but I have something in my mind.
Let's say I have LuciCony and the first page on my collection not yet fulfilled. If I sell LuciCony, what will happen with my "unlocked-LuciCony" in the collection?
    Become locked?
    Thank you
